Hugh W. Shankle (American, b. 1921) was a photo technician with WLBT-TV in Jackson, Mississippi, during the late 1950s and '60s. He was also the official photographer for the Mississippi Art Association and timpanist in the Jackson Symphony Orchestra.

He moved with his family to Ocean Springs, Mississippi for a brief period before moving out to California where he has lived for over 20 years.
Mostly self-taught, he was forever drawing, and sketching as a kid, but the beautiful landscape, and rich artistic heritage of the Monterey peninsula's Artist colony that was the deciding influence on his later works.
