A beautiful mid 20th century French naïf oil on board depicting Place de la Concorde in Paris, by Jean Fous. The work is signed lower right and framed.
Jean Fous is a well known French naïf artist who was featured in Anatole Jakovsky's ''Les Peintres Naïfs'', known as the bible of French naïf artists.
A similar work by Fous depicting Place de la Concorde is featured in the book "Guide Naif de Paris".

Jean Fous was the son of a picture framer living in the Rue du Dragon in Saint-Germain-des-Pres. Instead of following in his father's footsteps, he chose adventure; he travelled to the South of France and finally set up a stall in an open air market in the shade of St. Sernin Cathedral in Toulouse.
Later he returned to Paris and continued to sell in the flea-market of the Porte de Vanves. He is therefore the second 'naive' artist who was a seller in a second hand market, for Paul Lefebvre was another.
Fous's art is very personal, full of pictorial qualities. He is almost the only artist to have painted the Paris flea markets.
