The Coquitlam River near Jo's home in British Columbia is a favorite painting subject. She enjoys regularly walking the riverbanks from one end to the other with her family and friends. Always with a camera on hand, Jo takes photos in different lighting conditions for reference in her studio. During the summer, she and another artist often sit and sketch on location to gain a deeper understanding of the natural beauty.

Every summer, Jo goes down to the Coquitlam River near her home in British Columbia to enjoy the beautiful green surroundings glowing in the summer heat. "I couldn't resist how inviting this scenery was," she says. "Where I live, summer only lasts about three months, so I put this scene on canvas to enjoy it the whole year through."

This piece was inspired by the desire to linger near or in warm tropical waters, watching the mesmerizing patterns of light refractions as they move with the currents.
