Latin Villagescape Oil Painting by important and well listed Ecuadorian artist Joaquín Endara Ruiz Oil on Canvas Signed by the artist in the lower right of canvas "J. Endara R." Housed in a more contemporary gold toned wooden frame Approx. Measurements: 29.25″ x 20.5″ This painting showcases a nighttime cityscape scene of Quito, Ecuador. A large cross is the focal point of the scene, with Spanish Colonial buildings peeking through the night sky. The foreground of the image shows a cobblestone street with a large pyramidal post at the bottom right. The left corner of the painting is bathed in light and the sky is filled with dark purple-blue clouds. Joaquín Endara Ruiz was born in Quito on March 20, 1933, his childhood transcends in a traditional neighborhood of the city as is the "Panecillo" and the "Tola" hence it is understood that his deep love for our colonial Quito is born. At the age of 17 he suffers the loss of his parents and becomes fundamental support for his sisters, this event gives the pattern in his life and it is so that Joaquín Endara Ruiz begins with painting from an early age using as his main tool his right hand; and becoming a self-taught in painting. In 1957, at the age of 24, he married Mrs. Eulalia Echeverría Viteri, who would be the fundamental pillar during her artistic and then human career without presaging even what would later bring her fate improbably as "the end of a great beginning." In the year of 1958, he made his first Exhibition, he opened his first gallery called "Atelier D 'Art", the same one that was made in conjunction with the well-known artist Paco Coello. He continues his life presenting exhibitions of his work at a national level, arriving at the moment of projecting himself abroad. Thus, in the year of 1971 he traveled to the United States invited to present his work, and when he spoke of the omens of destiny, he referred to an event that marks a difficult moment in his life when, at the peak of his career, the artist suffers cerebral embolism, while presenting an exhibition of his work in California and is paralyzed with his right side. After a long treatment in Los Angeles, he recovers the mobility of his legs and his left hand. This fatality did not stop him in his career as a painter, his character and strength of will, forced him to fight with his impediment; That's how he learned to paint with his left hand and he came out again. This is why he is considered "twice painter" because his work is framed in two stages: before his illness and after it. This stage of his life did not mean a decline in the quality and creativity of his work. More his agility was diminished for obvious reasons. And to counteract this he dedicated himself to teaching his art to maintain the tradition of oil and impressionism; training more than 1500 art students who have gone through his workshop. In 1978, he traveled to Valencia-Venezuela, where he was awarded an honorable mention for participating in the Intercontinental Gold Contest. On July 22, 2000, he participated in the First Encounter of Plastic Artists for Justice and Hope held in Quito. Event organized by The Mariana de Jesús Foundation, Fundación Iglesia de la Compañía, and Fundación Biblioteca Ecuatoriana Aurelio Espinoza Polit. On July 27, 2000, UNESCO (Organization of the United Nations for Education, Science, and Culture) offers a tribute to his career in the Plastic Arts and his contribution to the Ecuadorian Culture format. Honor presided before by the teacher Oswaldo Guayasamín. For the year 2002, The Museum and Library Aurelio Espinosa Pólit pay homage to him for his work and mission in the culture. Recognizing his work in a chronological process of styles since the 19th century, whose work "Retablo de Cantuña" currently rests in the museum together with painters such as Joaquin Pinto, Pedro Leon, Manosalvas, Juan León Mera, Pedro Pablo Traversari, Guarderas, Emilio Moncayo and Joaquín Endara. Throughout his career, he has remained within the figuration of faces, cities, landscapes, mountains. It captures masterfully the tonalities (light/dark) of the architectural and landscape history of "Quito Nocturno", and in general of Ecuador. For all this, he can be called one of the last impressionists, because, with his works, he can go deeper than a photograph.
