About the Item
Winding paths between wind shaped trees explore illusive margins of atmosphere and form. Subtle edges of earth, tree and sky, seem to dissolve and reappear, caught at the moment when boundaries are undetermined and reality is malleable, like the point between dream and reality.
Beginning with under-painting, Kean modulates the intensity of light that spreads from the center of the canvas, while lines and shapes are defined and then partially obscured. Layer is painted over layer, resulting in unexpected gradations and tones. Imagination’s alchemy transforms the recognizable into delicately nuanced layers of color and tone, to gently invoke mystery, sensation, and mood.
Original oil on gallery wrapped linen, mounted on panel, cradled by 1 1/2-inch-deep stretchers. It is wired with finger friendly wire, is ready to install and comes with an official certificate of authenticity. The edges are hand painted, providing a finished look, suitable for framing, or beautiful left as is.
As a painter, Katherine Kean seeks moments of breath-taking transition in nature; a gathering of clouds or changing tides; times when the elements of the landscape combine with the alchemy of imagination to illuminate the world of heightened mood and sensation.
