About the Item

Kevin Sloan (b. 1958, Denver, CO) is a Denver-based painter working primarily with acrylic on canvas with forays into drawings, paintings on paper, and recently, ceramic and mixed-media sculpture. Growing up in Des Moines, Iowa, his early interest in art was nurtured by student classes at the Des Moines Art Center and in particular by their artist-in-residence, Frank Limone. It was clear upon his high school graduation that he would study art in college. Kevin received a BFA in painting from Tyler School of Art in 1981 where he studied with Stephen Greene and Stanley Whitney. He continued his formal education at the University of Arizona studying with James G. Davis, where he received an MFA in Painting in 1984. His curiosity and love of travel led him to live and work in a wide variety of cities across the United States including San Francisco, New York City, New Orleans, Key West, and Santa Fe. All these locales have had a lasting impact on his practice. Kevin’s work is characterized by curiosity and bemusement toward the natural and human-made world. His frequently symbolic paintings are part of an ongoing inquiry into the relationship between the marvel of the natural world and the mundane and often blunt reality of the modern era. In addition to his studio practice, he has been a visiting artist-in-residence at universities around the United States and occasionally teaches upper-level painting classes in Denver. He exhibits regularly in one-person and group exhibits around the world. His work is found in numerous private and public collections worldwide including the Israel Museum, Jerusalem; Phoenix Art Museum, Phoenix, Arizona; Museum of Fine Arts, Santa Fe, New Mexico; Tampa Museum of Art, Tampa, Florida; and the Tucson Museum of Art, Tucson, Arizona. Kevin currently works in a converted church in the historic Denver neighborhood of Globeville where in addition to painting, he grows flowers and vegetables in the summer months. He shares his life with his husband Mark and two spirited Labradoodles, Otis and Poppy.

Mid Century Desert Cactus Sunset Landscape by Russell Dale Moffett
By Russell Dale Moffett
Located in Soquel, CA
Mid Century Desert Cactus Sunset Landscape by Russell Dale Moffett Experience the splendor of the desert at sunset in this stunning mid century landscape by Russell Dale Moffett (American, 1899-1984). This striking 1959 landscape features tall cacti casting long shadows as they are bathed in warm light by an orb of golden sun. As the sky lights up in a burst of color, the desert sands are illuminated in a beautiful warm glow. Russell Dale Moffett's impressive attention to detail and realistic style leave a lasting impression on the viewer. Signed "Russell Dale Moffett" lower right. Presented in a giltwood frame. Canvas size: 24"H x 30"L. Framed size: 37"H x 31"W x 2"D. Regarded as a quintessential outsider artist, Russell Dale Moffett’s work has begun to attract collectors’ serious attention. Born in Indiana, by 1942 he had settled in San Diego and was a muralist. A large proportion of his output was created to decorate the bars and dives of those honky-tonk neighborhoods in downtown San Diego that catered to the soldiers and sailors that passed through in the boom war years when it was a liberty town. Much of his work must have been lost to gentrification and urban renewal. Some of it is just now coming to light. One of eight lost Hawaiian Surfer...

"Sunset on Golden Marsh" Large Landscape with Pink/Orange Sky and Setting Sun
By Kimberly MacNeille
Located in Wellesley, MA
"Sunset on Golden Marsh," Oil on Canvas, 48 x 48 Inches is a majestic landscape painted with all the elegance and attention to detail of the best of the 19th century Hudson River artists. The warm glow of the top half of the canvas, pink and yellow light diffused through passing clouds, perfectly capturing the setting sun on a summer day is a dramatic foil to the lower half of the painting where meticulous rendering of the marsh's water and greenery is dreamy in the distance. This painting is beautifully framed in a simple light wood, high quality strip frame that accents the image perfectly without distraction. Additional photos of painting details and showing the painting installed on a wall can be provided. MacNeille is an unusually gifted painter of landscapes in general whose works are of the highest quality, always with careful attention to light and time of day. In addition to marsh scenes inspired by her local North Shore of Massachusetts area, she is a painter of beach scenes, water, and Niagara Falls.
