About the Item
In this contemporary landscape painting in oil on linen, a solitary male figure wearing a short-sleeved plaid shirt, khaki shorts and tennis shoes stands with his back beside a yellow convertible classic car with its driver's side door ajar. The man looks out from the parking lot past pine trees and across a lake, towards a mountainside lined with houses with lights glowing from their windows beneath the luminous sunset sky. KK Kozik is a landscape painter, a figurative painter, and an interiors/still life painter. Many of these paintings veer towards painterly abstraction. Her exploration and mastery of these diverse genres is evidence of her fluid and continuous process of evolution. Kozik is always searching, pushing, and discovering. Her work is dedicated to finding the dynamic balance between mastery of technique and cognizance of art history while creating and solving new pictorial challenges. Her paintings are compositionally and emotionally complex and deeply rewarding.
Her work has been featured in Art in America, The New York Times, Timeout New York and London, Artnews, Harper’s Magazine, The Village Voice, The New Yorker, and Artforum, to name a few. Among her professional honors are fellowships from the state of Connecticut and at the Weir Farm Trust, as well as from Syracuse University and the Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation. She has created permanent public commissions for Fitchburg State University in conjunction with the Fitchburg Art Museum and for the New York City Metropolitan Transit Authority Arts & Design program at the Rockaway Park/Beach 116th St Subway Station. Her work has been shown extensively in the US and in Europe, including at the New Britain Museum of American Art, New Britain, CT, where she was awarded first out of 1000 artists in their 2018 Nor’easter survey show. Her work is in the collections of Smithsonian Museum, William Benton Museum, Florida State Museum of Fine Arts, The Rowman and Littlefield Publishing Group, Copelouzos Family Art Museum, Athens, Greece, General Electric Corporation, Great Valley Corporate Center, Harvard Business School, and the Library of Congress. Kozik earned degrees from The University of Virginia and Syracuse University. She is the director of ICEHOUSE Project Space in Sharon, CT where she lives and works.

Kathleen Keifer is a California-based internationally collected artist. Her paintings invite the viewer to consider the complex relationship between time and timelessness. It is the sheer visual interaction between the elements, taken in their bare simplicity that interests her. Water, sky, and architecture change their appearance with the shifts in weather and light. Her broken brushstrokes depict light and color in luminous waves, dissolving form into a shimmering surface of vibrant light. For her, painting captures the very essence of time and its passage.
While painting landscapes she became fascinated with isolating the objects in her paintings. She believes that actual sites and places have individual magic. The goal is to take objects from popular culture and paint them in a new context. She began to paint the silhouette of the Life Guard Tower more as a pop art symbol than a landscape element. With a high level of technical virtuosity, Keifer creates a new sense of reality with textures and colors that seem to add lighting effects and distinct shadows, confronting the viewer with new interpretations of familiar objects.
Born and raised in Chicago, Kathleen Keifer is a second-generation artist. Her mother, also a fine artist, exposed Keifer to the world of art and supervised her training from a very early age. This legacy continues today as Keifer closely nurtures the development of the artistic leaning in each of her three daughters, inspiring a third generation of female artists. Her works are represented by Artspace Warehouse Los Angeles and have been exhibited and collected internationally, including Chicago, New York, and London.
