About the Item

This painting by Lee Tiller is an invitation to rest, breathe and recuperate from the chaos of life. There are few artists alive that can capture the fleeting and transient effects of light better than Tiller. September sunlight is saturated in glorious warm golds and russets and positively drips with light. Whilst his artistic style is firmly grounded in the tradition of the original French Impressionists, in this painting, the composition is very much of a contemporary neo-impressionist approach. Hidden with the brushstrokes are myriad colours that will surprise and confound, yet when viewed as a whole, form a harmonious effect like that of musical expression. Lee Tiller’s tree paintings are some of his most striking and evocative works. They often feature lush, dreamlike landscapes where trees are the central focus, depicted with vibrant colours, expressive brushwork, and an ethereal quality of light. His tree paintings embody the essence of impressionism but also carry a touch of expressionism as they evoke deep emotion and atmosphere. Some trees appear to positively glow, as if illuminated from within by sunlight. And like the original French impressionists, he is fascinated with light, and especially it filters through trees, casting dappled shadows and glowing highlights. He refers to it as the stained-glass effect of nature. September sunlight will make a beautiful centre piece for any interior, and is bound to be the subject of many conversations. His studio, “the yellow house” which is adjacent to his home is an old converted bothy (small traditional barn) that overlooks a glacial valley known locally as ‘The Pocket’. Lee says… “I draw immense inspiration from the West Coast of Ireland. Its untamed beauty provides endless contrasts to our otherwise orderly state of human existence. The natural majesty of the mountains with their dramatic terrain often leave an unsettled air of intimidation, but can conversely serenade you with a calming gentleness too. It is a magical place indeed.” “I have long been inspired by the 19th Century impressionist painters who explored colour in a way that was hitherto unseen. The immediacy of impressionism provides the viewer with their own intimate experience of place and time, and is very much a case of show, but don’t tell. I love that people can interpret my paintings in a personal capacity. “ On more than one occasion Lee’s work has been likened to Monet and Van Gogh, and it’s easy to see where his major influences lie. Lee’s paintings are collected worldwide and can be found in private collections throughout both hemispheres. Painting in oils, his artistic works cover a diverse range of natural history subjects from marine wildlife through to wild chromatic impressionist landscapes.
