About the Item
A stunningly original mixed-media collage showing an Ark containing various life-forms and a dove resting in the waves. Fridman has used oil paint, papyrus and pre-columbian textiles to fashion a powerful interpretation of this fundamental symbol of Christian iconography.
Signed lower left, 'Liber Fridman' (Argentinian, 1910-2003) and created circa 1940.
This listed Argentine artist explored the juxtaposition of pre-Columbian and post-contact modes of expression with his multimedia approach in art. Fridman's work exalts pre-Columbian textile as art. Liber Fridman traveled extensively throughout South America during his career as an artist, studying and painting in Paraguay, Brazil, Venezuela and Peru.
Over the course of a long career, Liber Fridman exhibited widely and with success and was the recipient of numerous prizes, medals and juried awards. His work is held in the the permanent collections of national and international museums including the Phoenix Museum of Fine Arts, the Tel Aviv Museum of Modern Art, the Buenos Aires Modern Art Museum, the Rio de Janeiro Museum of Modern Art, the Stockholm Museum of Modern Art, Miami Museum of Modern Art, Amsterdam Museum of Modern Art, Punta del Este Museum of American Art, Curitiba Museum of Contemporary Art among others
