About the Item

This exceptional artwork is currently on display and available for sale at Signet Contemporary Art Gallery and online. "This oil painting depicts the enchanting Platform 9¾ at King's Cross Station, a beloved location from the Harry Potter series, reimagined by artist Lisa Bisbee in a vibrant and impressionistic style. The arched architecture of the station is highlighted with bold, textured brushstrokes in hues of pink, orange, and red, creating a warm and magical ambiance. The train tracks and platform lead the viewer's eye toward the center, where the scene evokes a sense of anticipation and wonder. The interplay of light and shadow, along with the whimsical color palette, brings an otherworldly charm to this iconic setting. In my technique, I apply a thin layer of color mixed with a lot of oil. I have three containers of oil to separate my colors: warm, cool and green, in that way it keeps them clean, otherwise it all gets muddy. I love scratching into the layers to reveal under painting, great for brick. Back in my painting class at art school, we had to paint architecture, so I laid down on the ground, and looked up, and it gave it strange perspective. Maybe that’s where my love of distorting perspective comes from. With all this texture is hard to get straight lines, but that’s OK, it just highlights the texture. It’s one of my favorite elements of design, texture, and color; and I guess in this case, perspective. I believed in magic when I was a kid. My first magic book was a mail-order from the back of a magazine, I filled out the name/address and scotch-taped two quarters on the paper, sealed the envelope and waited everyday, checking the mailbox for my magic book of spells. In this scene from King's Cross Station, the Harry Potter production crew used the magic of special effects. At Platform 9 ¾, Harry and his friends run through a brick wall between Platforms 9 and 10 to board the Hogwarts Express." - Lisa Bisbee This exceptional artwork is currently on display and available for sale at Signet Contemporary Art Gallery and online. Artist biography: Lisa Bisbee is a contemporary cityscape artist based in New York City. In her ongoing series of over 50 oil paintings titled "Bright Lights Pink City," Bisbee captures snapshots of urban architecture within a dreamlike atmosphere. Her work portrays both ordinary moments of daily city life and iconic landmarks such as the Guggenheim, Brooklyn Bridge, and Washington Square Park. Navigating the concrete jungle is an exhilarating experience for her, teeming with anticipation at every street corner. She aims to encapsulate the magical sensation of seeing the city with fresh eyes, imbuing her artwork with the essence of this exciting perspective. Through her art, she invites viewers to embark on a journey that renews their connection to the vibrant spirit of NYC, sparking a renewed sense of wonder and appreciation for its enchanting allure. Bisbee's NYC series of over 50 oil paintings depicts her adventures through the city, using vivid colors to showcase a vibrant metropolis. Influenced by her study of art history, particularly the Fauvism movement, she adopts the movement’s unique arrangement of colors—offbeat and unreal. She blends this concept with the exciting energy of New York City, aiming for the vibrancy to pop off the canvas much like how modern technology allows filters to alter photos and edit reality. Her palette includes neon pinks, fluorescent oranges, deep purples, bright yellows, and blues. Using Gapka oil paint from a small handmade artisan paint company, the colors achieve incredible saturation. Each painting in Bisbee's series serves as a snapshot of her urban expeditions through the city. Inspired by her photographs, she translates the experience of being in New York into joyful, vibrant oil paintings. Her work illustrates urban architecture and city life, from typical moments at crosswalks to landmark destinations like the Guggenheim, Brooklyn Bridge, and Washington Square Park. She captures experiences like viewing the skyscrapers from the East River ferry or seeing NYC from a bird's-eye view at sunset, depicting these moments with a blend of excitement and anticipation. Through carefully constructed scenes in my oil paintings, I have the power to transform reality into uplifting and inspiring depictions that pay homage to the inherent goodness found in people, places, and things. Regardless of whether I’m faced with gritty or overlooked settings, I dedicate myself to envisioning their metamorphosis into spaces filled with dignity, fun, frolic, happiness, and wonder. By offering fresh perspectives on familiar sights, I create vibrant and surreal renditions of the natural world that invigorate attitudes and foster a deep appreciation for our beautiful human existence. By employing a vivid color palette and whimsical lines that dance in rhythmic patterns across the canvas, I envision of a better world infusing life into my brushstrokes to vividly express the emotions stirred during my urban escapades in the heart of New York City.”-Lisa Bisbee
