About the Item
Danger is Contemporary Representational Art of a Canadian Landscape with a twist of Abstract. Gallery Wrapped.
“Whatever my particular aim is, atmosphere is a constant when conceiving my work. lt is through composition that I express my emotion and enter into dialogue with the other. Danger is a work of Abstract Landscapes with a Canadian interpretation.
My pictorial universe is dominated by the vastness of the land and its conflictual element. World events, climate change, war and injustice leave their indelible mark on my mind. ln my work, imaginary lands are superimposed on real ones, creating numerous possibilities. There arises a mix of immobility, mystery and silence, in which the human race advances towards an elsewhere. Through my artistic language, I communicate my perception of the world today in these abstract landscape oil paintings.
My artistic language is primarily and profoundly instinctive, intuitive and non-conformist. In the studio, I paint in oil or acrylic, adding pastel or pencil on occasion. First of all with urgency, the primal impulse your create. Then an initial emerges composition, followed by the work of reconstruction. 1Iuse monochromes in particular the produce of a dramatic effect and accentuate the seriousness of my aim.
Randomly, over the course of the passing days and over I go about, my eye picks up in a fashion, the forms, saturated colors and vibrations of my surroundings and records them in my subconscious. Back in front of my canvas These elements spring back, are revealed and shaped my own aesthetic.
For me it is essential that my paintings project a certain duality and that they are enigmatic and open ta varia us readings. 1 do not work with the viewer and his or her expectations in mind. They are up to their own resonance, their own meanings and pleasure. Nor do I work according to the artistic currents of the day. What I’m looking for in an inner need, independent of trends. The work of art, like everything that is vital, must be able to evolve.
I’m in the contemplation of nature that I find my inspiration.”

Sailing to the Sun, Reflection in the Water, Oil , Abstract Landscape, Nature
Located in Houston, TX
Sailing into the Sun is an abstract landscape painting. It is oil on canvas. It is gallery wrapped so there is no need for a frame.
On a summer morning in 1993 a 22 years old young came to Florida from a small old town in the central area of Cuba called Santa Clara. In his bag, he brought no more than two valuable things, his worn-out brushes and a great dream. The dream to one day become a professional artist in this new land that welcomed him with open arms.
Captivated by his love for the beauty of the Landscapes, his last works are what he sees even in the most common scenes: the close relationship of life and who we are with the natural world around us that asks us to respect and care for it.
Artist Statement:
" I like to scrutinize in the simple things, sometimes it is there where the lost painting is waiting to be found by the painter's eyes.
The landscape painting gives me the opportunity to establish a close relationship with the natural world and humbly capture on a canvas a little of its beauty listening to its voice that reminds us how valuable we are and how much we should love it".

Winter Walk with Jasper, (Black Cat painting)
By Sterling Boyd Strauser
Located in Wilton Manors, FL
Sterling Strauser (1907-1995). Dorothy and Jasper, Crystal Street Station, 1970. Oil on masonite panel, 11.5 x 22.25 inches. Signed and dated lower right. Very good condition with no damage or conservation. Unframed. Framing services available.
Image depicts the artist's wife, Dorothy Strauser, walking the beloved family cat, Jasper. In the background can be seen the East Stroudsburg Pa Train Depot on Crystal Street.
Provenance: Estate of the artist's Granddaughter, Princeton NJ.
Often called a romantic expressionist and American intimist, self-taught Pennsylvania artist Sterling Strauser (1907-1995) completed his first oil painting in 1922- inspired by frequent visits to the collection of American folk art at the Everhardt Museum in Scranton. Throughout the following seven decades of his career, Strauser’s artistic pursuit was based on his own intuition and determination to paint what he saw, rather than adhering to the conventional pictorial structures prescribed by prevailing styles at the time. Strauser rejected pretension, believing instead that art should work from life as it was lived. His oeuvre therefore serves as an extremely personal record of his observations and experiences from his lifetime painting in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.
Beginning early in his career, Strauser took his inspiration from American regionalists and traditional realists in the Ashcan style, as well as European movements such as Fauvism and Cubism, yet he eventually developed his own fluid realism based on subject matter beloved and familiar to him- family and friends, local landscapes and floral still lifes.
Known for his distorted pictorial space, exaggerated with vivid color, heavy impasto and an intensity of emotion, Strauser was adept at altering and rearranging the details and aspects of any given form to create a new kind of beauty.
"All a painting has to do, or a piece of sculpture, or whatever, is to entertain the critical eye. You have to have a fresh seeing eye… to look at things like a child, as if looking at the world for the first time (seeing) something that somebody else doesn’t see, something you want to identify with… Painting is largely a matter of evaluation. (It) doesn’t matter how much it looks like the subject matter. It just depends on how interesting you have made it so that it pleases the critical eye."
STERLING STRAUSER, STERLING STRAUSER: A MODERNIST REVISTED, P. 23
Sterling exhibited his work extensively throughout the country and drew the attention of many notable fellow artists including Milton Avery, Louise Nevelson, David Burliuk, Chaim Gross and Red Grooms. Sterling was also extremely influential within the arts community of Pennsylvania through his discovery and promotion of self-taught American Folk artists such as Justin McCarthy, Jack Savitsky, Joseph Gatto...
