Artist Bio:
Marie Robinson is an established fine artist whose practice centers on oil painting, supported by close observational drawing. Her work embraces contemporary realism, rooted in the tradition of representational painting, and she is particularly known for her still-life compositions, often with a unique twist.
Marie draws inspiration from the history and associations of everyday objects and materials, particularly those found in domestic settings. Working directly from life, she employs a detailed representational style that evokes the essence of her subjects while maintaining the physicality of oil paint on a flat surface.
Although Marie has drawn and painted throughout her life, she initially pursued a different path. Art did not align with the more ‘academic’ and scientific subjects at school, leading her to study Chemistry (BSc). After starting a family, she returned to her artistic passion, earning a BA in Fine Art with First Class Honours in 2002.
Since then, Marie has continued to develop her painting, with her work being selected for numerous prestigious exhibitions. These include the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition (2023 & 2024), the Royal Society of Marine Artists (2023), and the ING Discerning Eye Exhibition, where she participated in seven separate years, winning the ING Discerning Eye Staff Purchase Prize in 2014. Other notable exhibitions include the Society of Women Artists Open Exhibition, the Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize Exhibition, and the Sunday Times Watercolour Competition. She has also been invited to join the long-established Oxford Art Society.
Marie currently works from a rural studio in the Chilterns, where the natural surroundings inspire her. Seasonal flowers feature prominently in her still-life works, and she enjoys capturing the ever-changing moods and weather of the British countryside.

Marie Robinson artist sells works online and in our art gallery in Oxfordshire. Marie Robinson artist comments "My area of artistic practice is painting, underpinned by close observational drawing. I have a continuing engagement with thematic collections and am inspired by the history and associations inherent in ordinary objects and materials. My subjects are commonplace items particularly from the domestic environment. I am interested in the arrangement, combination and repetition of these familiar items and the narrative, atmosphere or resonances which can be evoked by the considered choices of subject and composition. I work from a contemporary perspective rooted in the tradition of realistic still life painting. Painting directly from life I employ a representational style to evoke the qualities of the subject which first attracted my attention, without losing the physicality of oil paint on a flat surface. On leaving school I initially studied for a Chemistry degree before having my two children. Despite having drawn and painted all my life it was only while bringing the children up that I found the flexibility to develop further artistically.

Tower Bridge Ripples was inspired by a late afternoon trip to Bermondsey. From there Tower Bridge looked hazy in contrast to the bright sparkling light on The Thames. The painting was created using textured acrylic medium. Oil paint was then applied in layers to define and illuminate the image.
