Maryann Lucas
"Liquid and Solid" oil painting of ocean seascape, Montauk, The Hamptons, Framed

2018

About the Item

An oil painting of a rocky shoreline in Montauk, New York. Painted from life, on site. Framed dimensions: 22 x 31.75 inches Maryann Lucas lives and works in Sag Harbor. She is primarily self-taught but has also received instruction and support from wonderful and generous members of the East End artistic community. Working exclusively in oils, Lucas sets out almost daily to create plein aire landscapes and seascapes. In her studio, she works directly from life and captures the beauty of natural light as it transforms ordinary objects into visual delights. Lucas wants her work to celebrate all that is well with this world and brilliant in this life, despite its pockets of darkness. For me, she says, I know I am in the Presence of something beautiful, when it steals my breath, silences my mind, pushes out everything else and draws me in. I trust That. I use That to guide my hands as I arrange a still life or scan a landscape to determine where to set down my easel. Ultimately, That is what drives me to paint. Becoming evermore skilled as an oil painter is another of Lucas goals. To that end she remains teachable, finding it refreshing and vital for her own growth to paint with others. She has studied with favorite artists including Michael Klein, Dennis Perrin, Ben Fenske, Melissa Franklin, and Ramiro Sanchez, and the late Jack Riggio, a prominent local artist from Southampton, NY. Lucas has taken classes at the Victor DAmico Art Institute in Amagansett, NY and The Art Students League in New York, NY. She earned her B.A. from Georgetown University and her masters from Columbia Universitys Graduate School of Journalism.

"Summers View" contemporary oil impasto landscape painting w wood floating frame
By Emily Persson
Located in Sag Harbor, NY
"Summers View" is an oil painting of the Australian landscape. Painted with a palette knife, the paint is laid on thick. Three dimensional texture of the paint creates realistic forms via shadow and highlights. A somewhat abstract method of painting creates a contemporary realist depiction of nature. A field of green is intersected by a narrow path. Tree spout upward along the hills edges, and a grand blue scape of water floods the background. Framed in a natural wood, floating frame. See images and video for details. Emily Persson is a Melbourne based artist who has been creating oil paintings with a palette knife for three years. Emily is a multi-generational artist with roots in Brisbane, Australia. Although an avid hobbyist painter her whole life, Emily found her style and her new career in 2016 when she began painting landscape, seascape and floral still-life paintings inspired by her surrounds in Queensland. Emily decided in late 2017 that she would give away a successful corporate office job and pursue her life long dream of becoming a full time artist. She relocated to South Yarra in Melbourne and immediately began exhibiting across Australia at galleries such as the Moree Gallery and Satch & Co. Emily participated in many group exhibitions and fundraisers in 2018 including multiple shows in Melbourne, New South Wales and Queensland. Emily has gained most of her notoriety from her popularity on Instagram where she has close to twelve thousand followers. Emily’s art has trended worldwide on social media and she has become a pioneer and mentor for other artists trying to find their online groove. Emily has drawn the eye of some of Australia’s most sought after interior designers including Thomas Hamel, Nina Provan, Lauren Li and has had her work displayed in some of Australia’s biggest lifestyle magazines including Belle and Country Style. Influenced by master artists such as Frederick McCubbin...
