About the Item

This contemporary impressionist piece, with a touch of Art Brut and Naïve art, "Bird Sitting on the Beach Umbrella," created by French artist Natalya Mougenot, celebrates her deep love for the south of France. Inspired by the many cherished summer vacations spent in the region, this painting explores the beauty of Collioure, a picturesque village located between the Pyrenees Mountains and the Mediterranean Sea. Collioure is renowned for its stunning blue-green waters, clear skies, palm trees, vineyards, and its vibrant port. Known as "The Mediterranean Pearl," the village has long been a muse for many artists, including Matisse and Derain, and it’s here that Mougenot captures the serene yet dynamic landscapes of the beach, sea, and mountains. Through expressive and spontaneous brushstrokes, Mougenot conveys the tranquility and creativity that Collioure instills in all who visit. Her use of vibrant, unrestrained brushwork adds life and movement to the painting, offering a sense of immediacy and energy. The absence of rigid structure and the emphasis on feeling and color are hallmarks of her distinctive style. The artwork is created with oil paints on a stretched cotton canvas and is sold unframed, allowing you the option to frame it to your personal taste or display it as is for a more contemporary feel. Ready to hang, it comes with photos of the artwork displayed in various interiors to inspire your own space. This is a unique, one-of-a-kind original painting, signed on the front, and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. It will be carefully packed with layers of bubble wrap and shipped securely to you. Please note that colors may vary slightly between the actual painting and the image you see on your screen due to variations in digital camera settings and monitor calibration.

Henrietta Caledon Seagulls Original Oil Painting Oil on Wood Canvas Size: H 51cm x W 61cm Sold Unframed Please note that in situ images are purely an indication of how a piece may look). Landscape painting of seagulls fishing in the sea by Henrietta Caledon. There is a family of seagulls that live on my roof, and I became fascinated by them during the lockdown. They are so agile, and they represent ‘soaring above the drama’, ‘looking at things from a different angle’, adaptability, stamina, resourcefulness, and freedom. The turquoise and blue colours of the sea almost swallow the gulls in the waves and their orange beaks are a wonderful contrast. Henrietta Caledon was born in London in 1964. Studied art and history of art for O’level and A’level at West Heath School and then Queensgate School. Trained at Xium International design service company in 1982/83. Started interior decorating business Henrietta Designs in 1984 and have carried out many projects around the world for thirty five years, working a lot with design and colour. 2016-2019, Trained with Nick Bashall at Rossetti Studios and the sketch club at Dilke Street. 2018 exhibited three paintings in group exhibition at The Hurlingham Club, London. 2019 solo exhibition at Kiki McDonough...
