About the Item
Olģerts Saldavs (1907.29.VII – 1960.1.IV) - Painter, art scholar.
Studied in the studio of U. Skulme, later of K. Miesnieks and L. Liberts (1926). In 1936, he graduated from the V. Purvītis Landscape Painting master workshop of the Art Academy of Latvia with the diploma work "Kulšana".
Wrote reflections and criticisms on art. He wrote a monograph on V. purvītis, also an introduction to L. Svemps reproductions album (1957), as well as to K. Ubān's album (1958).
He went to Germany in 1944 and returned to Latvia in 1945.
Worked as a art restorer. He was a teacher at J. Rozenthal's Riga Art High School (1945 – 48) and Riga Applied Arts High School (1948 – 50). Worked as a designer in the combine "Māksla" (1950 - 58), as well as a contributor to the magazine "Māksla" (1958 - 60).
Has participated in exhibitions since 1935.
Member of the Union of Artists since 1957.
He painted the landscapes of Vidzeme and Koknese parishes in different seasons, often supplementing them with staffage. Worked in the oil technique, particularly fond of greenish-gray or brown-yellow colors.

Olgerts Saldavs
Olgerts Saldavs (1907.29.VII – 1960.1.IV) Painter, art scientist. Artist attended U. Skulmes, K. Miesnieks and L. Liberts art studies. He graduated Latvian Art academy under V. Purvitis Landscapes master class, with diploma work “A threshing”. Artist wrote art critics, monograph about V. Purvitis (1958), written introduction to reproduction’s album of Leo Svemps at 1957, album about painter K. Ubans, too.
1944 – At Germany, 1945 he returned to Latvia. He worked as a restaurateur, as a teacher at Art school of J. Rozentala in Riga (1945 – 1949)
1948 – 1950 – Rigas applied Art school, as a decorator at combine “Maksla ‘’ (1958 – 1960).
Since 1957 he took part in exhibitions.
Since 1957 he became a member of Artist’s Union.
He painted Vidzemes, Kokneses landscape’s, worked at oil technique, colored at green – grey and brown- yellow.

Helena Malarewicz-Krajewska (born 14 July 1910 in Biecz , died May 7, 1998 in Warsaw) is a Polish painter, active advocate of socialist realism.
Studied between 1928 and 1929 at the Free School of Painting and Drawing in Cracow , from 1929 to 1934 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw : painting by Mieczysław Kotarbiński and Felicjan Szczęsny Kowarski and graphic art by Władysław Skoczylas and Leon Wyczółkowski . During his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw he worked in the Association of Independent Socialist Youth "Życie".
At the end of 1945, Helena and Juliusz Krajewscy lived in Warsaw. Helena Krajewska participated in the creation of the first Polish Fine Arts Association. Krajewscy became members of the PPR party organization at the Fine Arts Association.
In 1947 she became the President of the Board of the Warsaw District of the Union of Polish Artists , and in 1948 the Secretary of the Polish United Workers' Party at the ZPAP.
In December 1985, an exhibition of works by Helena and Juliusz Krajewski took place in Warsaw's Zacheta. After 1989 some of the paintings of the Krajewski were transferred to the gallery of socialist realist art of the Zamoyski Museum in Kozłówka.
This piece was created using oil on card in wooden gilt frame under glass.
