ARTIST: Pascual Roch Minue (1899-1977) Spanish

NOTES: Minué was born in Valencia but emigrated to Cuba with his family at a young age, where he lived for twelve years until returning to his hometown at the age of 22. Once settled in Valencia, he enrolled at the San Carlos Academy of Fine Arts, where his interest in landscape painting manifested itself early on and became evident from a young age when he won the Roig Prize for landscape and open-air painting. In the 1930s, he exhibited with the Agrupación Valencianista Republicana on several occasions and in 1942 he travelled to Mallorca, settling permanently in Puerto de Pollença until his death. There he joined the Pollensa School, a group of artists from South America, Europe, and the Iberian Peninsula who had settled in the north of the island of Mallorca at the beginning of the 20th century, captivated by the light, colors, and landscape of Mallorca and the Balearics, with Anglada Camarassa as their teacher. His works consist of seascapes and landscapes from various parts of the island, characterised by the power of light and a warm Mediterranean palette, energetically applied using quick brushstrokes.
