Peter Kuhfeld Born in Cheltenham, Peter is the only child of a German prisoner of war and an English classical pianist. He studied at Leicester School of Art between 1972-76 and on graduation worked for two years giving lessons in drawing and painting at Rugby School of Art before securing a place at the Royal Academy Schools. There he studied under Peter Greenham CBE RA from 1977 to 80. While at the Royal Academy Schools Peter won various scholarships and prizes, notably the David Murray Landscape Prize, the Royal Academy of Art Silver Medal for Drawing, the Royal College of Surgeons Dooley Prize for Anatomical Drawing, the Elizabeth Greenshield Foundation Scholarship and Richard Ford Scholarship for study in Spain. He has enjoyed a successful career exhibiting around the world and often appears in the ING Discerning Eye selection. His drawings are held in the Royal Collection and in 2012, he was commissioned by HRH The Prince of Wales to paint the royal wedding of TRH the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge.

Martin produces atmospheric pieces; employing a rich, muted colour palette and velvet blacks to create a dream-like sensuality that pervades his work. The artist's forays into clay have also opened up an interesting dialogue between his sculpture and figure painting. Working across a broad range of mediums including chalk, pen and ink, pencil, oils, pastels, etching and clay, Martin has developed a style that draws inspiration from Francisco De Goya and Eugene Delacroix.
