Using a vibrant palette of greens, yellows, and blues, the artist creates a harmonious balance between the foreground, filled with expressive vegetation, and a serene horizon that merges the sea and the clear sky. The use of oil on mounted panel adds a rich texture that enhances the loose, dynamic brushstrokes characteristic of the artist's Mediterranean Post-Impressionist style. This landscape evokes the calm and atmosphere of the Costa Brava, a recurring theme in Durán Benet's work. Artist's Biography Rafael Durán Benet (Terrassa, December 2, 1931 – Barcelona, September 15, 2015) was a Catalan painter renowned for his Mediterranean landscapes and vibrant use of color. He came from a family with a rich artistic tradition, being the nephew of painter and art critic Rafael Benet i Vancells and the grandson of painter and decorator Joaquim Vancells i Vieta. Although he considered himself self-taught, Durán Benet received significant artistic influence during his time in the studio of sculptor and painter Manolo Hugué. His works reflect a unique ability to capture the Mediterranean atmosphere, whether under bright sunlight or grey skies, standing out for their strong chromatic impact and sensitivity to light representation. Throughout his career, Durán Benet participated in numerous exhibitions, especially at the Sala Parés in Barcelona, cementing his reputation as one of the key figures in Catalan landscape painting. His legacy continues to be celebrated for his ability to convey the essence of the Mediterranean in his works.
