About the Item
Rob Katkowski’s original oil painting, Pale Moon, is a captivating exploration of form, color, and abstraction that draws viewers into a serene, dreamlike landscape. Measuring 12 inches tall by 16 inches wide, this oil on canvas composition is a testament to Katkowski’s masterful ability to balance simplicity with emotional depth. The artist’s distinctive style merges subtle geometric elements with soft, atmospheric tones, evoking a sense of calm and quiet mystery.
In Pale Moon, a gently sloping hill, rendered in muted earthy greens and ochres, dominates the composition. Above the hill, the sky radiates soothing shades of soft blue, giving the piece a tranquil and ethereal atmosphere. A small, pale yellow moon is delicately placed in the upper right quadrant of the canvas, its faint circular glow barely perceptible—an exquisite nod to the artist's theme of transitional spaces and unseen worlds.
Subtle, abstract details punctuate the foreground, including bold white strokes and hints of red and pink, which offer a striking contrast to the otherwise subdued palette. These carefully placed marks suggest a narrative—a mysterious, otherworldly interaction taking place on the hilltop. Katkowski’s fine use of line, seen as faint incisions across the canvas, further enhances the sense of movement and interconnected pathways, inviting viewers to interpret the scene as both serene and filled with possibility.
The artist’s background, rooted in a fascination with the threshold between reality and the metaphysical, enriches this piece with layers of meaning. Born outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and holding both a BFA and MFA, Katkowski has spent his career exploring alternate realities and the invisible pathways that connect them. Pale Moon perfectly embodies these ideas, serving as both a contemplative landscape and a gateway to the unknown.
The sides of the canvas are carefully painted, ensuring a seamless, gallery-ready presentation. This artwork requires no framing and is wired and ready to hang, making it ideal for contemporary interiors seeking a touch of subtle sophistication. Collectors drawn to ethereal landscapes, modern abstraction, or narrative-driven art will find Pale Moon a meditative addition to their space. Convenient local Los Angeles delivery and affordable US and international shipping are available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included.
Katkowski’s ability to create visually minimal yet emotionally profound compositions has earned him recognition in private and public collections, including PNC Bank and the Fairmont Hotel. This piece invites viewers to pause, reflect, and explore the quiet beauty of its landscape while hinting at the profound, unseen worlds that lie just beyond the visible. Pale Moon is not merely a painting; it is a story waiting to unfold.

Born just outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Rob Katkowski is a visionary artist whose work transports viewers to ethereal landscapes and mysterious transitional spaces. A graduate of The Ohio State University with a BFA in Painting (1998) and an MFA from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania (2007), Katkowski’s artistic journey is defined by a profound exploration of alternate realities and the invisible pathways that connect them. Shortly after earning his MFA, Katkowski was selected for the prestigious Brewhouse Distillery Artist Residency in Pittsburgh, where he later co-led the program from 2008 to 2011. His art has been exhibited widely across the United States and internationally. Notable collections include the Fairmont Hotel (Pittsburgh, PA) and PNC Bank (Manhattan, NY, and Pittsburgh, PA). Katkowski's art is a window into the unknown, blending serene landscapes with hints of other worldly dimensions. His compositions often feature leafless trees
marking the thresholds of lost worlds, shimmering ponds revealing hidden
watery passages, or twilight doorways to alternate realities. His works delve into
transitional spaces, evoking the thin veil between the physical and metaphysical
realms where unseen pathways to the unknown are revealed. After spending several years in New York City, Katkowski returned to Seattle, where he continued to create paintings that inspire curiosity and wonder. His artworks
invite the viewer to consider profound questions: If other worlds exist, how might
we reach them? Through his distinctive style and narrative-rich compositions,
Katkowski sets up scenarios that unlock these invisible realms, allowing the
imagination to explore their mysterious depths. Katkowski’s work has captured the attention of collectors and galleries alike, standing as a testament to his ability to create captivating, multidimensional worlds
that linger in the minds of those who encounter them.
