Early one morning I was at the river just as the sun was coming up. The joy I felt at that moment set the mood for my day. I sketched the scene and went back to the studio and started the painting. My memory sustained me as I progressed to the finished painting.

About the Artist
After painting for years out of the family room of his home, Robert took the plunge and built an addition to his home for proper studio space. He works in two very different styles, producing both color-blocked abstracts and realist landscapes. Robert begins each painting by creating a thumbnail value sketch to establish a composition. Each piece reflects his mood, but whether energetic or placid, the colors must always be harmonious. Robert’s technique uses mostly brushes with the occasional addition of palette knives to create subtle surface texture.
