This is how artist Sonja Brussen describes her way of working.
From the moment she has chosen the location and subject, set up her materials, and is ready to begin ‘the work’, she becomes completely focused on the painting. The choices and decisions she makes arise from this deep concentration and are not consciously weighed. She sees and responds—with paint, color, contrast, etc.—until she is satisfied and the painting reflects what she sees and experiences outside, in the heart of nature.
While speaking with Sonja, we sense a great deal of energy, fresh perspectives, and sheer joy when it comes to painting outdoors. And that is exactly what her work radiates. Her love of being outside is translated into color and a dynamic brushstroke.
