Macaione (1907 - 1992): An American born artist who was originally trained as a barber, but found a liking to art during this time. After serving in the army during World War II and being medically discharged, he attended the Rhode Island School of Design and the Art Students League (New York). In 1951 he moved to New Mexico where he was immediately welcomed by the art community and the likes of Alfred Morang, Randall Davey, and Gustave Baumann. It was here he developed his fauvist approach, painting with thick impasto to greated colorful landscape scenes. He often painted in the streets of Santa Fe, regardless of the weather, translating the scene onto his canvas. Today he is honored in Santa Fe with Macaione Park, and around the world his art is on display in some of the fine collections the globe has to offer.
