A rare day of stormy weather across the coast in the South of France, dark clouds roll in with the waves and parts of the beach are matched in the tones of a stormy day. One can almost feel the rather bracing air in this scene.
This painting is from a small collection of work by the same hand, all on the same canvas-textured heavyweight paper. They were purchased by us in France and the scenes all seem to be be from the South of France and Provence. They very much feel as if they were painted "en plein air" as the artist has captured the scene with a very fresh breezy feel to the colours and texture. All are unsigned, are very good quality by an accomplished hand, bear good bright colour and are very clean. The ideal way to display would be to affix it to board and frame it.
Condition report:
The photographs were not taken using a flash but it should be noted the colours in this painting appear somewhat darker than the photographs. Very clean, stored by the artist for some time we believe. The paint is applied thickly in places, giving a great depth of texture and movement. Small pinholes to the extreme four corners where the artist affixed it to a board loosely to paint the image.
