Beautiful oil on fiberboard painting of fishing boats at the docks of Gloucester by the well known North Fork Long Island artist Caroline M. Bell. Circa 1945. Signed lower left by the artist. Condition is very good. Housed in its original silver leaf over wood frame in restored condition. Overall framed measurements are 20 by 18 inches. Provenance: Sarasota, Florida estate. Oil on canvas painting on artist board by the American artist, Jean Leason Hitch. Signed lower right. Condition: good; no restorations. The painting is housed in a massive gold reproduction frame 24 by 22 inches. Jean Leasin Hitch began her artistic career in Melbourne, Australia, under the tutelage of her father, Percy Leason, a professional painter, well-known cartoonist and illustrator. After coming to the United States in 1943, she was appointed curator of art at the Staten Island Institute of Arts and Sciences, New York. While at the museum, she also began her restoration career and restored paintings from the museum's collection and other notable historic collections. Jean Leason Hitch was an active member in the Allied Artists of America, American Artist Professional League, Hudson Valley Art Association, served as vice president for the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club in New York, and in 1953, was listed in "Who's Who in American Art." Her work merited numerous awards; including the Kathleen Grumbacher Award, Council of American Artists Society Award, Anna Hyatt Huntington...
