About the Item
Valerio D'Ospina's (US based) "Dry Dock" is an oil painting depicting a crane above a large boat in dry dock.
Valerio D’Ospina was born in Taranto in 1980. On July 14, 1999 he received an artistic diploma from Liceo Artistico Statale “Lisippo” in Taranto, where he was first introduced to the world of art.
In November of the same year he moved to Florence to further his artistic studies. There he enrolled in his first painting course under the instruction of Professor R.Giovannelli in the Accademia di Belle Arti. During his stay in Florence, he assiduously visited museums where he learned the technique of the great masters and was given permission to replicate original works of art in the Palazzo Pitti Museum. He also visited the major Italian artistic capitols frequenting, with particular interest, the museums, art fairs and art biennals.
In 2003, he moved to Paris for a short while where he studied firsthand the masterpieces of his favorite local artists.
After his return to Florence, he began to work in an antique‐painting restoration studio under the restorer Maurizio Bazzini, who gave him insight to the “character” of antique paintings.
On February 25, 2005, after preparing an experimental thesis in the study of “fisiognomica”, Valerio graduated with a degree in Painting. Impressed by the complex study of the thesis, and the correlation to his final paintings, the commission presiding over Valerio’s lecture presented him with 110 cum laude out of a possible 110 for his outstanding effort.
Upon obtaining his degree, in September of 2006 he enrolled in the COBASLID (a two‐year‐long statal course to become a professor of art) in the Accademia di Belle Arti of Florence. Only ten students were admitted into the course and in order to continue his studies, it was required for him to complete a series of examinations to secure his place. After his acceptance, he began an internship teaching pictorial discipline in the Liceo Artistico “L.B. Alberti”.
Before completing his final year of study, D’Ospina met with the chair of the college of fine art at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Impressed with his skills and artwork, he offered him a position to teach a course designed to utilize D’Ospina’s knowledge and competences of the great masters technique. Two short weeks after completing the COBASLID, D’Ospina, only 27, travelled to America to begin teaching Classical Drawing and Painting, summer session II for the fine art department at IUP. After this teaching experience he decided to focus exclusively on painting, receiving positive feedback from private collectors and galleries from around the world.
Since July 2009 Valerio is established in US where he lives and works and is ranked by several distinguished art magazines, both national and international, as one of the most significant painters of cityscapes and industrial scenarios, who live and work in America.

"Dry Dock"
By Henry Bayley Snell
Located in Lambertville, NJ
Jim’s of Lambertville is proud to offer this artwork by:
Henry Bayley Snell (1858 - 1943)
Henry Bayley Snell was born in Richmond, England, on September 29, 1858 and immigrated to the United States at the age of seventeen. He studied at the Art Students League in New York while working for an etching and engraving company where he began a lifelong friendship with fellow artists, William Langson Lathrop. While in New York Snell met another artist, named Florence Francis, also of English descent, whom he would eventually marry in 1888. It is believed that they first came to Bucks County in 1898 to visit the Lathrops at Phillips Mill.
Snell was a beloved teacher at the Philadelphia School of Design for Women from 1899 to 1943, and often took his art classes abroad during the summer. He would frequently visit his native England, spending time at the art colony of St. Ives on the coast of Cornwall. Snell would summer in Gloucester, Massachusetts, and Boothbay Harbor, Maine, where he also held painting classes. Almost all the women who exhibited with “The Philadelphia Ten” had studied with Snell either in Philadelphia or New England. Snell also taught on Saturdays at the Grand Central Galleries in New York City.
The Snells made many trips to New Hope before settling there permanently in 1925. They lived on the top floor of the Solebury National Bank Building where Henry also maintained a studio. This was located at the foot of the New Hope-Lambertville Bridge and many of Snell’s New Hope scenes were painted from this location. In 1943, Snell passed away in New Hope at the age of eighty-four.
Henry Snell earned an international reputation as an artist for his paintings of Cornwall...

"Shipyard" -- Oil Painting by Alexander Stolin
Located in New Orleans, LA
ALEXANDER STOLIN, born and raised in Kiev, Ukraine (under the former Soviet Socialist Republic), where he received intensive training and a master of fine arts degree in his homeland’s traditional art academies. He immigrated to San Francisco in 1992, met his future wife in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, then married and settled in New Orleans. He maintains a home and studio in Madisonville, Louisiana, and is a significant but understated figure in the New Orleans art community. As art critic D. Eric Bookhardt suggested in 2002, “Stolin is more accomplished than he is famous.” His art, often exhibited in thematic series that incorporate a variety of media, ranges from intimate portraits to large-scale murals (one measuring twelve feet by seventy-two feet). He has worked on a progressively larger scale, most recently designing and painting projects for the Louisiana film industry. Stolin’s technically proficient and complexly layered art reflects a unique fusion of the academic training he received in Kiev and his evolving response to the very different culture, lifestyle, and subject matter he has discovered in New Orleans, Madisonville, and the Gulf South.
Stolin’s Face to Face series of portraits, completed from 2000 to 2002, featured New Orleans artists including Douglas Bourgeois...
