About the Item
Serene winter landscape of snow and bare trees in cool tones by California artist Virginia Sevier Rogers (American, 1917-2015). Signed and dated lower right "VR 2/50." Displayed in a rustic wood frame. Image size: 20"H x 22"L.
Rogers was born in Fort Collins, Colorado. She studied with Hugh Breckenridge at the PAFA in 1934, then earned a B.A. from the University of North Carolina and an M.A. at UC Berkeley. While in Berkeley, Rogers pursued her art career and in 1971 moved to the Monterey Peninsula. Member Society of Western Artists, Artists Equity.

Virginia Sevier Rogers
Virginia Sevier Rogers studied with Hugh Breckenridge at the PAFA in 1934 and then earned a BA degree from the University of North Carolina and her MA at UC Berkeley. From the early 1940s, she was the wife of a naval officer and living in Shanghai and other places. Rogers returned to Berkeley in 1950 and had an active art career. In 1971, she moved to the Monterey Peninsula and purchased a farm on Carmel Valley Road. At her studio, Rogers taught small classes and produced paintings, batik, pottery, sculpture and a line of note cards on handmade paper.
