Valentine Love (number 10 white) R’ depicts silhouette of a Valentine. As snipped from the pure white background, Agent X creates the illusion of a cut-out to reveal a Baroque, floral painting underneath. With its bold composition and its juxtaposition of the antique with the contemporary, the print is a powerful transference to paper. Agent X, cultural explorer and agent of the unknown, creates experimental, multimedia collages, paintings, and 2D artwork. Described as ‘Pop Art with thought,’ Agent X juxtaposes pop culture, technology, fashion, and music in visually complex amalgamations expressing the anxieties of the global, post-modern world and the dark side of consumerist, media-obsessed culture. His work occupies a unique intersection between the aesthetics and philosophy of Futurism, the social critique of the Dada movement, and contemporary artistic movements ranging from Pop Art to Superflat.

Agent X
Agent X, cultural explorer and agent of the unknown, is an emerging artist who creates experimental, multimedia collages, paintings and 2D artwork. Described as Pop Art with thought, X juxtaposes pop culture, technology, fashion and music in visually complex images expressing the anxieties of the global, post-modern world and the dark side of consumerist, media-obsessed culture. X’s work occupies a unique intersection between the aesthetics and philosophy of Futurism, the social critique of the Dada movement and contemporary artistic movements ranging from Pop Art to Super-flat. The cultural issues of racism, sexism, power, money and the urban environment are common themes found in his work. The chaotic style in X’s pieces reflect his passionate feelings of these relevant issues. Based in Vancouver, Agent X grew up in Connecticut and studied in New Haven and Atlanta. X was the top recipient at the Curious Duke Curious Pie Show and he has been a finalist in numerous prestigious art contests. X’s work has been exhibited in art meccas all around the world, including London, New York, Singapore, San Francisco, Spain, Amsterdam and Toronto.

According to legend, Hercules had to make atonement and became a slave to the Lydian queen Omphale. When she found out who her slave was, she married him. Falling for his mistress and made effeminate by the luxury of court life, the former hero allowed himself to become the laughing stock of the court. He dressed in women's clothes, spun wool and did other women's work, whereas Omphale wore his lion's skin and carried a wooden club. When the time of punishment was over, the hero realised his delusion and left Omphale.
So far, the painting could not be clearly assigned to an artist. Nevertheless, it impresses with its fluid and convincing painting, whose colourfulness and conception are reminiscent of the Prague School around Bartholomäus Spranger.
This work follows an engraving and an etching made by Michel Dorigny in 1643 after a design by Simon Vouet. It shows the same scene but the print differs in minor details from the present painting (see e.g. the head of the lion) and the treatment of the faces seems to be painted more detailed and refined.
