Antonio Monasterio – Angel Among Humans. No. 8 Medium: Mixed media on paper (pastels, wax crayons, red pen) Dimensions: 56 x 44 cm Signature: Signed lower right in cursive Support: Watermarked paper OCF SAVOUEUX Period: 1970s Description: A towering, winged figure hovers over a gathering of human-like beings with exaggerated, almost comical facial expressions. The angel, a radiant blonde woman with an enigmatic smile, extends her arms as if in quiet observation or silent guidance. The curving lines, delicately traced in red pen, create a pulsating rhythm, reinforcing the sensation of a celestial apparition. The exposed breasts of the angel, along with the stylized forms of the figures below, introduce an element of sensuality, blending the ethereal and the corporeal. This work belongs to a collection of over a hundred drawings by the artist, divided into two primary series: one exploring feminine figures and the other investigating geometric and futuristic forms, reflecting his artistic and intellectual inquiries. About the Artist: Antonio Monasterio (1915-1983), born in Tenerife and active mainly in the south of France, developed a pictorial language that merges surreal and symbolic elements with reflections on science and mathematics. His work alternates between representations of femininity and explorations of space and the fourth dimension, creating images that oscillate between reality and imagination. Condition: Good.
