Kang Cho's journey as an artist began in Seoul and found its canvas in America, where he settled in Chicago in 1969. A prodigious talent in painting emerged early in his life, despite cultural expectations steering him towards engineering or science. It was in the US where educators recognized his artistic potential, culminating in a full scholarship at the American Academy of Art in Chicago.
In 1976, Cho's path led him to Denver, propelled by the support of his mentor, Bill Sharer. There, he immersed himself in the local art scene, with influences like Ned Jacob shaping his mastery of drawing and color. Cho's art quickly resonated with galleries and collectors, and his unwavering commitment to his craft cemented his status in the art world.
Honored with accolades such as the Elizabeth T. Greenshields Grant and the Anna Lee Stacey Scholarship, Cho painted a spectrum of scenes, from fleeting natural vistas to the human form's intricate expressions. His Santa Fe period, marked by the region's vibrant hues and delicate light, was a testament to his evolving palette. Kang Cho's legacy, sadly concluded by Covid in December 2021, lives on through the strokes and shades of his enduring works.
