Maurice Ambroise Ehlinger
Maurice Ambroise Ehlinger was a painter, born in Champagney, Haute Saone, France in 1896. He spent part of his life in Moyenmoutier in the Vosges. Thanks to a grant from the City of Saint Die, Ehlinger was able to follow the teaching of Larcher at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Nancy. Then, he went to Paris to follow the teachings of masters Jules Adler and Francois Flameng. Ehlinger had to become a drawing teacher during this period at evening classes for the City of Paris. He started exhibiting at the Salon of French Artists in 1922. In 1926, Ehlinger received a bronze medal and a silver medal in 1928. In 1938, a major exhibition only on his painting was organized in the Galerie Charpentier. Finally, he won a gold medal, Hors Concours 1941. Ehlinger became famous for female portraits, nudes and children portraits. His studio was in Montmartre, Paris. His work is present in many French museums and particularly in the Saint Die City Museum, East of France, where 37 of his paintings and many drawings are exhibited. Ehlinger died in 1981 in Belfort.
