Artist Comments
Using art to work through the loss of my father, this piece explores how grief causes otherwise forgotten objects to take on new meaning. My dad and I were estranged, and his passing left me with feelings of guilt, relief, regret and pain. Reminding me of all that were the things of his that found their way to my house; relics of his life. These little talismans hurt to see, but they also provide solace, reminding me of good times and giving me some part of him to hold onto, even as I grieve.
About the Artist
Sumner Crenshaw infuses her work with movement, lines and varying degrees of color. She currently lives in Maryland and finds inspiration in the work of Salvador Dali. Her goal is to keep exploring the minimalist, narrative surrealism she's been moving toward.
