Large 18th century three quarter length portrait of Miss Jones of Fonmon Castle, Wales, oil on canvas by Enoch Seeman. Excellent quality and condition portrait of a young Miss Jones wearing a gold satin dress covered with a Prussian blue drape. She is believed to be the daughter of Robert Jones III grandson of Colonel Phillip Jones, know at the time as the richest man in Wales, purchasing Fonmon in 1658. Presented in a carved gilt Kent frame with egg & dart decoration and a scallop shell motif. We can quote for frame restoration if desired. The painting is in excellent clean and stable condition. Unsigned

This superb large three quarter length British Old Master portrait in a landscape oil painting is attributed to circle of John Vanderbank the Younger. Painted circa 1738 the sitter is Mrs James Hoste of South Wootton and Sandringham, nee Hammond. She was the daughter of Anthony Hamond and Susan Walpole, daughter of Robert Walpole, and was sister to Robert, 1st Earl of Oxford. She married Major James Hoste of Sandringham, Norfolk, and they had two daughters. The sheen of her blue satin dress against her gold cloak is stunning. A really lovely 18th century portrait with excellent provenance.
Inscribed with sitter details lower left.
