Authenticity confirmed by Madame Annette Bourrut-Lacouture, the artist's expert.
Breton was a pupil of Félix de Vigne, then Drolling, before entering the Ecole des Beaux Arts in 1847. Between 1849 and 1850, he devoted himself to genre painting, as evidenced by his submissions to the Salon. In 1853, he began to paint landscapes exclusively. He was decorated on several occasions: third medal at the 1855 Universal Exhibition, second-class medal at the 1857 Salon, 1st-class medal at the 1859 and 1861 Salons, 1st-class medal in 1867, when he was made Officier de la Légion d'Honneur, medal of honor at the 1872 Salon, and promoted to Commandeur de la Légion d'Honneur in 1885, and jury member at the 1889 and 1900 Universal Exhibitions.
