Jules Noel
Retour de pêche

About the Item

"Le retour de pêche", Oil painting on canvas, signed in the bottom right corner, 55x82cm. Chérioux's student in Brest, Noel moved to Paris and debuted in the 1840 Salon, at which he will keep appearing until 1879. He earned a third class medal in 1853. Jules Noel is an artist not lacking charm; his drawing is full of panache, his aquarelles and paintings are executed spiritually. He was especially successful in representing the Normandy coastline, placing him alongside Eugene Isabey. His familiar scenes of urban and rural life, or the sea constitute a picturesque testimony full of life. Very appreciated, his studio is the meeting spot of multiple generations of romantics and realists. Museums : Angoulême - Bernay – Besançon – Bordeaux - Brest – Briançon – Castres – Chantilly – Chartres – Chaumont – Cherbourg – Dijon - Mulhouse – Nancy – Nantes – Reims – La Rochelle – Tours
