George Weissbort painted in a figurative classical style going against the grain of the modern abstract living and painting in the Wye Valley. Brian Sewell considered him an important champion of the earlier style describing him as having ‘painted the right pictures at the wrong time’. Educated at Central St. Martins it is easy to see the influences that Chardin and Vermeer had on his work.
