Artist Comment : The brass incense burner in this painting belonged to my grandmother. It is very special to me as it evokes sweet memories of my visits with her. I used the blue bowl because I was so attracted to the color. In a still life I enjoy painting how the light travels across the canvas. Through the composition and color I am expressing a feeling of serenity and peace. But to me the most treasured part of this painting is the memory of her.
Painted by Texas artist Helene Robinson who has studied under great Texas painters. Helene Robinson is known for painting still-lifes in the style of Realism. Her subjects are usually fruit and antique objects which she has acquired from family members, road trips and estate sales. The artists has also ventured out into the style of abstract landscapes which is shown below and available on 1stdibs.
Helene Robinson's creative journey was sparked by a family move to Melbourne, Australia. Inspired by various Australian artists, she discovered her love for oil painting in Australian and continued her studies to this day upon her return to the United States and in Houston. She found her passion for painting was based on a desire to capture the radiant beauty found in color, mood, and light, and to express those qualities in her landscape and still life paintings.
