About the Item
Pink Peony is a 14" x 10" oil on panel painting by European /Croatian artist Tina Orsolic Dalessio who is classically trained. This is part of her new 2024 series of still-life paintings featuring florals.
By far the most common colour of peony is pink, ranging from subdued shades of pale pink to bold, vibrant shades of coral pink and hot pink. Peonies are native to parts of Europe, North America and Asia, and are the only member of the family Paeoniaceae. They date back to at least 1000BC in China.
Peonies have a notoriously short flowering season, blooming for just a few short weeks in spring and summer. In Australia, the peak season is between late October (if we’re lucky) and early December, which is great for spring weddings. In the northern hemisphere, they’re available from late May into June.
While it’s certainly prized for its beauty and alluring fragrance, the peony flower was historically grown for use in traditional medicine, in countries like China, Japan and Korea. The roots of the plant were used to treat convulsions, swelling, pain, clotting and many other conditions.
Fast forward to today, and The Netherlands is the greatest producer of peonies for the cut-flower market. Interestingly, Alaska has emerged as another strong producer of peonies, thanks to the country’s extended sunlight hours in mid to late summer. This helps the flowers bloom longer and grow larger, even after the season has ended elsewhere. Similarly to many other pink flowers, pink peonies symbolize both romantic and non-romantic love, as well as friendship and happiness.
Tina Orsolic Dalessio is a figurative and still-life painter born in Zagreb, Croatia. She received her formal academic training at the prestigious Florence Academy of Art in Italy, during which time she was granted a meritorious scholarship. She graduated from Florence Academy of Art in 2018.
Tina also holds a bachelor’s degree from University of Zagreb Law School, an LL.M. degree from the University of Michigan Law School and a PhD degree from the University of Maastricht, Faculty of Law. Before becoming a painter, she taught philosophy of law at the University of Zagreb.
Alongside her husband Marc Dalessio, she discovered her passion for fine art, which led her to a life changing decision to leave academia and devote herself fully to painting.
Artist Statement:
I am a classically trained artist who specializes in painting from life, under natural light, in the medium of oil paint. My objective is to paint ‘slice-of-life’ scenes, thereby witnessing and articulating the beauty of the world around me, as authentically as possible. My subject matter ranges from portraits and still lives to landscapes. I take particular joy working en plein air, exposed to the elements and immersed in nature.
In my opinion, art, perhaps more than any other social phenomenon, best reflects the shifting tides of human consciousness. Therefore, being involved in arts, and more particularly, being a part of the artistic movement that at its core entails a careful observation, admiration and respect of the natural world around us, gives me a strong sense of purpose and hope. This reemerging naturalistic movement that I consider myself a part of, rests on humility and acknowledgement of how precious, beautiful and fragile our world is.
As an artist who considers it her mission to take in the beauty around her, and let it out as art, I hope to gently remind others of that same truth regarding the miracle and delicacy of the human condition. In doing that, I hope to become a small drop in the river of thought pointing to the more general shift of human consciousness towards a deep respect for our Mother Nature. For we all are, in every aspect of our existence, intrinsically tied to it.

"Three Lemons and the Last Supermoon" impasto still life/interior oil painting
By Emily Persson
Located in Sag Harbor, NY
"Three Lemons and the Last Supermoon" is a contemporary oil painting by Australian painter Emily Persson. An interior featuring a black wall, a potted orchid, white blossoms, yellow lemons on a white tabletop, and a window showing the blue night sky and a full moon.
Framed in a modern natural wood floating frame.
Emily Persson is a Melbourne based artist who has been creating oil paintings with a palette knife for three years. Emily is a multi-generational artist with roots in Brisbane, Australia.
Although an avid hobbyist painter her whole life, Emily found her style and her new career in 2016 when she began painting landscape, seascape and floral still-life paintings inspired by her surrounds in Queensland. Emily decided in late 2017 that she would give away a successful corporate office job and pursue her life long dream of becoming a full time artist. She relocated to South Yarra in Melbourne and immediately began exhibiting across Australia at galleries such as the Moree Gallery and Satch & Co. Emily participated in many group exhibitions and fundraisers in 2018 including multiple shows in Melbourne, New South Wales and Queensland.
Emily has gained most of her notoriety from her popularity on Instagram where she has close to twelve thousand followers. Emily’s art has trended worldwide on social media and she has become a pioneer and mentor for other artists trying to find their online groove.
Emily has drawn the eye of some of Australia’s most sought after interior designers including Thomas Hamel...
