About the Item

This exceptional artwork is currently on display and available for sale at Signet Contemporary Art Gallery and online. In Raspberry Rhapsody, Sarah Eden elevates two simple raspberries into a symphony of colour, form, and texture. With oil on board as her medium, she transforms these fruits into a sensuous duet—perfectly ripe, richly hued, and utterly radiant against a deep, velvety background. The composition is intimate, the fruits presented close and tactile, their tiny hairs and seeds rendered with delicate care. Eden’s hyperrealist technique invites close inspection. Every segment of each raspberry is painted with such precision that the viewer can almost feel their soft give, almost taste their sweet tang. The gleam on the fruit's surface and the subtle shadows cast on the table below add volume and depth, bringing the raspberries just to the edge of realism, and then just beyond—into reverie. The palette is vivid and lush: carmine reds, blush pinks, and the fresh green of the leaves leap out against the inky blackness behind. Light plays softly across the surface, highlighting the organic beauty of the fruit while creating a sense of gentle drama. Raspberry Rhapsody is a celebration of nature’s design, lovingly observed and luxuriously painted. Artist Biography: Sarah Eden has always had a deep passion for art, but her path to becoming a professional artist was unconventional. After earning a degree in languages, she pursued a career in sales and marketing, soon realizing that her true calling lay elsewhere. Art had been an integral part of her life since studying A-Level Art in school, and with the unwavering support of her family, she took a leap of faith into the art world over a decade ago—and has never looked back. Initially exploring figurative art, Sarah quickly established herself as a full-time animal portrait artist. In 2014, she officially registered as self-employed, dedicating herself entirely to painting. Her workweek is filled with enthusiasm and excitement, as she finds immense joy in bringing her subjects to life on canvas. As a realist painter, Sarah specializes in highly detailed oil paintings of wildlife, capturing everything from native British species to exotic animals. Based in Malmesbury, Wiltshire, she draws inspiration from the diverse wildlife in her surroundings. Her work is driven by a deep appreciation for the individuality and beauty of animals—particularly those that are often overlooked. Over the past ten years, her commissions have reached collectors worldwide, with recent works finding homes in Milan, New York, and Tasmania. While private commissions remain an important part of her practice, she now focuses on developing her own collections, highlighting unconventional subjects that deserve recognition. Recently, Sarah has expanded her artistic practice to include still-life painting, which she refers to as "fruit portraits." The rich colors and textures offer a refreshing contrast to the fur and feathers of her wildlife subjects. Constantly evolving as an artist, she embraces new challenges to refine her craft. Through her highly detailed, lifelike paintings, Sarah Eden celebrates the beauty and complexity of the natural world in all its forms. My ‘fruit portraits’, as I like to refer to them, are rendered in a dramatic chiaroscuro style, to draw the viewer’s eye into the heart of the composition creating a sense of depth, volume and tactile presence. My use of chiaroscuro is not merely a technical device, but a means of imbuing my subjects with a sense of mystery and allure. By carefully balancing light and shadow, I strive to create a sense of drama and emotional resonance, inviting the viewer to contemplate the beauty of the everyday and to appreciate the simple pleasures of life. By combining technical skill with a deep sense of wonder and curiosity, I strive to create still life paintings that are both beautiful and thought-provoking, inspiring the viewer to see the mundane, in a new and unexpected way.”- Sarah Eden

"Berries and Cream" Photo-Realist Still Life 3 Fruits in Glass Compote on Blue
By Mary Ellen Johnson
Located in Wellesley, MA
Mary Ellen Johnson is internationally recognized as one of the top Photo Realist painters working today whose extraordinary area of expertise is large-scale, unimaginably realistic, stunningly beautiful and delightful images of food. Currently available is this gorgeous bowl of raspberries, blueberries and strawberries with whipped cream, a mouth-watering slice of cherry pie with vanilla ice cream, an equally amazing strawberry parfait sundae, and a delicious slice of cherry cheesecake: Mary Ellen Johnson "Berries and Cream" Oil on Wood Panel 24 x 20 Inches Note: This painting is framed in white wood. The artist has also completed many commissioned food paintings including the Canadian Government's request for images of 5 of Canada's favorite foods which subsequently became stamp images - and The Cheesecake Factory's two commissions for their corporate headquarters and the owners' Malibu beach house. A quote from the artist: “I make the panels large to give a monumental feeling to the painting when viewed. These large images not only confront the viewer with their size but with their tremendous sense of extravagance. My work explores the deep connection that food has with humanity.” Mary Ellen Johnson Johnson further describes herself as a ‘Precision Realist’ whose primary subject is food. Sold works include paintings of PB & J sandwiches, pancakes with blueberries and syrup, banana splits, ice cream, hot dogs, cupcakes, waffles, muscles and sushi, among others. Unequaled for their brilliance and dramatic depictions of mundane subjects with their connotations of nostalgia, comfort and tradition, it is also her scale, cropping and over the top technical skill that renders these works so overwhelmingly appealing!
