About the Item

Albert WATSON (*1942, Scotland) Monkey Comic Book, 1992 Chromogenic print from a polaroid positive face mounted to acrylic (Diasec) 243 x 183 cm (95 5/8 x 72 in.) Edition of 3, plus 1 AP; Ed. no. 1/3 Print only Signed by the artist Albert Watson (*1942, Scotland) is a Scottish photographer well known for his fashion, celebrity, and art photography, having shot over 200 Vogue and 40 Rolling Stone covers since the mid-1970s. His photographs are signature, classical, and bold, and in our world of manipulation, Watson prefers the enlargers and the trays; an artist who greatly enriches our perception with his unique photographic view. Photo District News named Watson one of the 20 most influential photographers of all time, along with Richard Avedon and Irving Penn, among others. The work ‘Kate Moss, Marrakech’ is part of the 'ROIDS!' Project. With this project Albert Watson – who has been recently awarded an Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II for his lifetime contribution to and achievements in photography – became interested in scanning his Polaroids at a massive resolution. This creates an effect as if you would observe them under a microscope, which shows all their beauty along with all their flaws. Watson is creating a fascinating combination of old technology in the new digital world. By blewing the scan of the Polaroids up to almost 2.5 meters (96 inches), Watson makes their attraction physically perceptible – Photography, Color Photography, Animal, Monkey

King Casey, NYC - b&w Portrait of an Ape with crown, Fine Art Photography, 1992
By Albert Watson
Located in Vienna, AT
Black and white Portrait of a Chimpanzee with a crown, photographed by Albert Watson in 1992. All prints are limited edition. Available in two sizes. High-end framing on request. All prints are done and signed by the artist. The collector receives an additional certificate of authenticity from the gallery. Albert Watson's Monkey Portraits from the early 90s are one-of-a-kind icons. 'King Cazey' depicts a Chimpanzee with its arms crossed in front of its chest. The Monkey is looking somewhere beyond the camera with a challenging, almost mocking gaze. Eyecatching is the crown on the monkey's head. It is modeled after the Edwardian crown, the oldest English crown, which is still used today for the coronation of British monarchs. Throughout the last four decades, Albert Watson has made a name for himself as one of the world’s most successful fashion and advertising photographers, creating more than 100 Vogue covers over the years. From the iconic Hitchcock series to extravagant shoots for Iris van Herpen, the British star photographer is one of the founding fathers of fine art photography. Mick Jagger, Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, or David Bowie – Watson has captured the Who’s Who. No matter the genre, landscape, portraiture...
