About the Item

Albert WATSON (*1942, Scotland) Patty Owen, New York City, 1986 Chromogenic print from a polaroid positive face mounted to acrylic (Diasec) Sheet 238 x 182.5 cm (93 3/4 x 71 7/8 in.) Frame 239 x 183.5 x 10 cm (94 1/8 x 72 1/4 x 3 7/8 in.) Framed in artist's black acrylic box Edition of 3; Ed. no. 1/3 Albert Watson was born 1942 in Edinburgh, Scotland. He currently lives and works in New York. A student of the famous Royal College of Art in London Albert Watson (born 1942) is a Scottish photographer well known for his fashion, celebrity, and art photography, having shot over 200 Vogue and 40 Rolling Stone covers since the mid-1970s. His photographs are signature, classical, and bold, and in our world of manipulation, Watson prefers the enlargers and the trays; an artist who greatly enriches our perception with his unique photographic view. Photo District News named Watson one of the 20 most influential photographers of all time, along with Richard Avedon and Irving Penn, among others. Presented in prestigious galleries and museums worldwide Watson has won numerous awards, including a Lucie Award, a Grammy Award, the Hasselblad Masters Award, and three ANDY Awards. He was awarded The Royal Photographic Society's Centenary Medal and Honorary Fellowship (HonFRPS) in recognition of a sustained, significant contribution to the art of photography in 2010. The exhibition of ROIDS! marked two world premiers; not only the gigantic Polaroid prints, but also an amazing selection of never before made available photographs were on view for the first time ever! With the 'ROIDS! project, Albert Watson - who has been recently awarded an Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II for his lifetime contribution to and achievements in photography - became interested in scanning his Polaroids at a massive resolution. This creates an effect as if you would observe them under a microscope, which shows all their beauty along with all their flaws. Watson is creating a fascinating combination of old technology in the new digital world. By blewing the scan of the Polaroids up to almost 2.5 meters (96 inches), Watson makes their attraction physically perceptible. – Woman, Black and White, Actress, Photography, Art, Fashion, Polaroid
