Shani Mootoo
Patio 1/8 - detailed, documentary, exterior, color, photography, giclée print

2022

About the Item

Compelling, enigmatic and ultimately real, Shani Mootoo’s photographs of her childhood home in Trinidad chronicle a life. This is one in a series of images the artist calls the ‘History Revisited Series’ that provide richly detailed, uncurated records of the house—inside and out that she grew up in. The patio is surrounded by lush tropical greenery, an open umbrella shades three dirty plastic white chairs; glass from a broken lamp is scattered on the patio stones. What do you see? This giclee print is editioned, 1/8. The work is matted, framed. Framed size is 25 x 33 inches and is available in two additional sizes, 21 x 31.5 inches (30.5 x 40 inches framed, edition of 5, $3,400); 12 x 18 inches (21 x 27 inches framed, $2,000.) “It is there in that house that I see my roots and I wanted to record the marks on it before time takes it away forever.” Shani Mootoo This image is 1 in an edition of 8, framed dimensions are 25 x 33 inches. An accomplished writer, filmmaker, painter and photographer Shani Mootoo earned a BFA from the University of Western Ontario, and an MA in English from the University of Guelph. She has been longlisted for the Man Booker Prize. Her most recent novel, Polar Vortex, was shortlisted for the 2020 Giller Prize. Mootoo's paintings have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions locally and internationally, most notably at the Vancouver Art Gallery, the Queen’s Museum in NYC, the Contemporary Arts Museum in Houston, and at the Venice Biennale. Her videos include “English Lesson”, “Wild Woman in The Woods” and “Her Sweetness Lingers,” and have been screened in film and video festivals and art exhibitions locally and internationally, including at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC. Shani Mootoo was born in Ireland and raised in Trinidad. She now lives in Prince Edward County, Ontario.

Sharon's Sunroom 1/5 - A photograph of carefully curated collected items
By Shani Mootoo
Located in Bloomfield, ON
Known for her photographic portraits of interior spaces, Shani Mootoo reveals the curious and often emotive personal narratives of her subjects.  This giclee print by Shani Mootoo is editioned, 1/5. The work is matted, framed. Unframed size is 21 x 31.5 inches. It is also available in two other sizes, 12 x 28 (framed 21 x 27 inches, edition of 10, $2,000); and 16 x 24 inches (25 x 33 inches framed, edition of 8, $2,600.). Mootoo describes how this image was created: "I was at my printer's studio working on a body of photographs when we were interrupted by a customer who needed his attention for a few minutes. I agreed on a pause so that that customer could be accommodated, and my printer suggested I roam the garden, as there was a lot to see there. Just before the exit to the garden was a room crammed with pastel knick-knacks. A glass sliding door stood closed between me and this room, which seemed to be a combination of very special private space and a storage room. I immediately had the sense that I was seeing a photograph waiting to be taken and, as I had my Sony Rx100m7 camera around my neck, I ran back to my printer and asked if I could go into the room. He generously said, 'By all means, go wherever you'd like".  On entering, there wasn't much room to negotiate, but I was struck by the carefully...

Macaw #3 -Signed limited edition art print, Blue bird, Animal, Contemporary
By Tim Platt
Located in Sant Cugat del Vallès, Barcelona
" Macaw #3 ” - Signed limited edition archival pigment print - Edition of 3 The Green-Winged Macaw can be mistaken for a Scarlet Macaw as from the front it is almost entirely red. It is distinguished by a greenish band of feathers below the shoulders and wings. The green band transitions to dark blue on the wings, and there is light blue on the rump and on the tail feathers. Animal photography is about being ready for the split-second moment when it happens. This takes a certain amount of production. The studio set-up, the lighting and the camera settings can all be planned but the magic moment is seldom planned. It just happens naturally and you need to be prepared. Whether you capture it will depend on patience, concentration and reflex. This is seldom more true than when capturing birds in flight. The human eye can’t process the speed at which birds fly. The only way we can fully appreciate the beauty of feathered flight is to watch it in slow motion or freeze it at several thousandths of a second. This is an Archival Pigment print on fiber based paper ( Hahnemühle Photo Rag® Baryta 315 gsm , Acid- and lignin-free, Museum quality for highest age resistance and a popular alternative to analogue baryta paper). The inks used are also known for their longevity. Signed + numbered by artist with certificate of authenticity. Please note that prices increase as editions sell. Archival pigment print available sizes ( Image size , the white margin is not counted): 106 x 69 cm / 41.5 x 27” - Edition of 10 152.4 cm x 101.63 cm / 60 x 39,76 in - Edition of 3 Tim Platt specialises in creating minimal stylised studio portraits of birds and animals, which he describes as beauty shots. A frozen moment in time allows us to observe the world in suspension and will often reveal a graphic beauty that might otherwise flash by in the blink of an eye and remain unnoticed. Whether observing the magnified eye of a bullfrog, or an eagle captured at several thousandths of a second in mid-flight, he is fascinated by the level of detail that can be revealed in a large format print. It is the stillness of a photograph that gives us time to pause and marvel at the myriad levels of detail in Nature’s grand design and allows us to reflect on the wonderful diversity of life on Earth. categories : Color photography, 21st century, Archival pigment print, Animal, Portrait, Slow motion, Beauty, Fine Art , Parrot, Colourful, Red, Blue, Green, Black, bird in flight, animal photographer, animal photography, bird, bird photography...
