Peace and Tranquility by Catherine Yi-Yu Cho Woo - The Art of Feng Shui
Located in Chicago, IL
Peace and Tranquility by Catherine Yi-Yu Cho Woo Available sizes: 15" x 15" - Edition 22 of 100 About the Artwork: According to Chinese tradition, pink flowers enhance relationships, while water symbolizes wisdom and wealth, increasing the influx of people and prosperity into one’s life. Feng Shui - The Ancient Chinese Art of Placement Dr. Catherine Yi-yu Cho Woo was a master of Feng Shui, the 4,000-year-old Chinese art of designing one's environment to maximize the flow of positive energy (ch'i). Dr. Woo believed that there is no separation of art, life, and Feng Shui. Her works therefore embrace and reflect a balance of the five elements in Chinese philosophy — metal, water, wood, fire, and earth. Building on these principles, she had channeled an insight into beauty and peacefulness into her works that has won praise from those seeking enlightenment, mainstream American corporations, and many others. As a disciple of Mizong Feng Shui, Dr. Woo maintained that the positioning of paintings within a room can have different effects on those who view the paintings. Displays of her works that respect Feng Shui principles, whether in public or in private homes, have been found to bring a sense of peace and tranquility. Available sizes: 15" x 15" - Edition 22 of 100 Artist Bio: Dr. Catherine Yi-yu Cho Woo (1935 - 2021) Scholar, teacher, painter, poet, composer The Honorable Dr. Catherine Yi-yu Cho Woo was an accomplished poet, composer, painter, teacher, and writer. She was the first Asian American woman to serve on the National Council on the Arts, and was honored by the National Endowment for the Arts with an appointment as an Ambassador for the Arts. Dr. Woo's paintings have been shown in galleries and museums throughout Asia and the United States, including the United Nations, the Sackler Museum at Harvard University, and the National Gallery in Taipei, Taiwan. One reviewer said, "To stand in front of Dr. Woo's work is to experience the stirrings of the heart, mind, and soul of nature, as if the paintings are alive. Trees and mountains breathe out peace. Splashes of color vibrate with the energy of life and movement. Her visually poetic paintings create a close relationship between the beauty of nature and its beholder." Born in Beijing to a family of classically-educated scholars, all four of Yi-yu's great-grandfathers earned Jin Shi...

Cosmic Vibrations
Located in New Orleans, LA
Archival pigment print, mounted, UV laminated, frame upholstered by the artist Edition of 5 + 2 AP Alia Ali ( عاليه علي ) is a Yemeni-Bosnian-US multi-media artist. A child of migrant linguists, Ali has traveled to sixty-seven countries, lived in and between seven, and grown up among five languages. Her migrations have led her to process the world through interactive experiences and the belief that the damage of translation and interpretation of written language has dis-served particular communities, resulting in the threat of their exclusion, rather than a means of understanding. As an artist who exists on the borders of identifying as West Asian, Eastern European, a United States citizen, queer, culturally Muslim yet spiritually independent, her work explores cultural binaries, challenges culturally sanctioned oppression, and confronts conflicted notions of gender, politics, media, and citizenship. Working between photography, video, and installation, Ali’s work addresses the politicization of the body, histories of colonization, imperialism, sexism, and racism through projects that take pattern and textile as their primary motif. Textile, in particular, has been a constant in Ali’s practice. Her strong belief that textile is significant to all of us, reminds us that we are born into it, we sleep in it, we eat on it, we define ourselves by it, we shield ourselves with it, and eventually, we die in it. While it unites us, it also divides us physically and symbolically. Her work broadens into immersive installations utilizing light, pattern, and textile to move past language and offer an expansive, experiential understanding of self, culture, and nation. Alia Ali’s work has been featured in the Financial Times, Le Monde, Vogue Arabia...

Erik MADIGAN HECK (*1983, United States) Without A Face (Dior), 2018 Chromogenic print Sheet 152,4 x 101,6 cm (60 x 40 in.) Edition of 9 plus 2 artist's proofs (#2/9) print only Originally from Excelsior, Minnesota, Erik Madigan Heck (*1983) is one of the youngest and most promising American fashion photographers of the contemporary art scene. In his relatively short career the artist developed a personal way of looking at fashion, as Nathalie Herschdorfer underlines in her essay "Minimal and pure: Erik Madigan Heck fashion photographs". His work is characterized by a clear and distinctive treatment of colours and patterns, which makes it unequivocal. "Heck’s photographs push the concept to new limits, creating imagery that goes beyond traditional fashion photography. Meticulously constructed and enhanced with bright colours, blurring the line between the clothes and the background, his images play with this idea of ‘future’ silhouettes". – Nathalie Herschdorfer In 2017 Heck published his first monograph with Thames & Hudson and Abrams Books titled 'Old Future'. In his 'Old Future' series Madigan Heck explores the intersection of photography and painting as he borrows from and bends the genres of fashion photography, landscape painting and portraiture. Madigan Heck is a regular contributor to The New York Times...
