About the Item

Jean Michel Basquiat (After), 2005 limited edition on 500 12'inches vinyl record with double side poster, framed. This is a reissue of the classic Beat Bop with Rammellzee 12inch record cover. Beat Bop" is a song by American hip-hop artists Rammellzee and K-Rob. It was produced and arranged by Jean-Michel Basquiat. Initially it was made as a test pressing by Tartown Inc. in 1983. In 1983, the song was released as a single by Profile Records, and featured in the hip-hop documentary film Style Wars (1983). Rammellzee (born in late 1960 in Far Rockway, Queens, New York, died on June 27, 2010) was a visual artist, graffiti writer, performance artist, hip hop musician, art theoretician, and sculptor from New York City. In the decade prior to his death he had been a sensation in the Manhattan art world, bringing graffiti off the streets and into upscale galleries. He had also tried his hand at film making and music production, notably the classic hip-hop track "Beat Bop" by K-Rob and Rammellzee. Due to the rarity of its original pressing and the cover art by Basquiat, "Beat Bop" is among the most valuable rap records ever made. In 2017, Rolling Stone magazine ranked it among the "100 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs of All Time." Jean Michel Basquiat ( 1960 - 1988 ) was born to two Haitian immigrants in Brooklyn New York in 1960. His early creative career was as the Street graffiti artist nick named " Samo " in the late 1970's on New York City's Lower East Side. By the early 1980's with the help f his friend Andy Warhol, Basquiat began to make his emotionally charged aesthetically arresting Neo Expressionist paintings. In 1992 The Whitney Museum of Art did a retrospective exhibition of the life works of this great American Contemporary artists and master of social commentary. His work focused on suggestive dichotomies such as wealth vs poverty, integration vs segregation, and inner vs outer experience of the human condition. He appropriated poetry, drawing, painting, & married text and image with Abstraction and figuration. Basquiat's works had strong social commentary and deeper truths about the individual and the power structures of racism, and criticism of colonialism and support for class struggles. This fine art lithograph print is printed on high quality heavyweight archival paper stock. It is in excellent new condition with very light signs of handling..
