BIOGRAFÍA DEL ARTISTA:
Antoni Tàpies i Puig es hoy una institución internacional y es uno de los artistas más importantes de la segunda mitad del siglo XX en España. Fue uno de los principales representantes del informalismo, que combina tradición e innovación dentro de un marco abstracto aunque lleno de simbolismo. Muchos quieren ver una obra espiritual aún siendo decisivo el peso material en ella.
Nacido en el seno de una familia oligarca, vivió un ambiente liberal desde su infancia. Con 11 años despierta su vocación artística, y es desarrollada en parte debido a una tisis que le provocó incluso alucinaciones que influirían notablemente en su obra posterior.
Inició su exitosa carrera en Barcelona, muy vinculada al surrealismo catalán pero en 1950 se marcha a París y se introduce de lleno en el informalismo. Empieza a pintar con un estilo muy matérico, que incluye materiales de de reciclaje o de desecho, y sus típicas cuerdas, papeles, arena, paja o polvo de mármol. Por ello las pinturas de Tàpies son casi bajorrelieves.
Entre sus principales influencias destacan Nietzsche, Cataluña y el budismo, que le sirvieron de alguna manera para crear sus impactantes composiciones que adquieren que casi parecen muros o paredes, en las que se distinguen signos (cruces, lunas, asteriscos, letras, números, figuras geométricas…). Sus obras suelen ser de colores austeros, fríos o terrosos.
Otra característica de la obra de Tàpies es que se degradaba rápida y conscientemente. Esta descomposición era perfecta para reflejar el paso del tiempo.
