About the Item

Carroll Dunham’s “Places and Things I” (1992) is a vivid and dynamic work that exemplifies the artist’s exploration of abstraction and figurative forms through bold colors and graphic lines. This piece is part of a suite of five linoleum cuts, with this particular print being numbered 25 of 36. Measuring 17 x 13 inches (43.2 x 33 cm), the work is in good condition, preserving the sharpness and vibrancy that Dunham’s works are known for. The composition features a striking silhouette rendered in rich, contrasting colors against a bright yellow background. Dunham’s use of simplified shapes and saturated hues creates a powerful visual impact, drawing the viewer’s attention to the interplay between the abstracted figure and the space it occupies. The bold outlines and flat color fields are characteristic of Dunham’s style, which often blurs the line between abstraction and representation, leaving room for interpretation. Dunham, an artist known for his innovative approach to printmaking and painting, frequently explores themes of identity, landscape, and the human condition through his work. In “Places and Things I” the abstracted forms invite viewers to engage with the piece on both a visual and conceptual level, encouraging contemplation of the relationships between form, color, and meaning. As part of the Disney Contemporary Resort Collection, “Places and Things I” holds a significant place within a curated selection of contemporary artworks that celebrate creativity, innovation, and visual exploration. The Disney Contemporary Resort is recognized for its commitment to showcasing art that challenges conventions and inspires viewers, making Dunham’s work a fitting addition to this collection. The piece’s connection to the Disney Contemporary Resort enhances its cultural and historical significance, making it a valuable addition to any collection.
