Francis Mean
Pas de faux témoignage (Bear No False Witness), by Francis Mean

circa 2010

About the Item

Signed, titled and numbered by the artist. From the "Ten Commandments" series, this represents the commandment "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour". Born in 1952, Francis Méan received his education at the Institut Supérieur des Beaux Arts St Luc in Liège (Belgium). Méan's work remains recognizable over the years and yet he has regularly changed many aspects of his style. He has said that "Nature speaks, but people are too busy to hear it. Nature remains my main source of inspiration, with attention for the infinitely large and the infinitely small. The colors of the sea, the shape of a mountain as well as the fleeting size of the rainier clouds inspire me."

Signed, titled and numbered, edition of 15. Image size: 9.75 x 10.75 Rosalyn Richards has been a member of the Bucknell University art faculty since 1982. Images from particle physics, satellite photography, biotechnology, radiology, geological survey maps, have all served as influences on Richards' work. Her paintings, prints, and drawings relate to the human need to construct our experiences in nature using systems of design and technology. The maps become metaphors for inner journeys, and are also meant to suggest playful and whimsical approaches to the usually serious function of diagrams. She has had solo shows throughout the United States, and her work is represented in museum collections such as: MUSEUM COLLECTIONS: Chicago Art Institute Mineapolis Institute of the Arts University of Minnesota Yale University Art Gallery Grunwald Center...
