Picasso, Arlequin au Baton

About the Item

PABLO PICASSO (1881-1973) Spanish painter and sculptor is one of the most recognized figures of twentieth century art. During his artistic career, which lasted more than 75 years, he created thousands of works using all kinds of mediums. He changed art more profoundly than any other artist of his time. First famous for pioneering cubism, Picasso continued to develop his art with a pace and vitality comparable to the accelerated technological and cultural changes of the twentieth century. Each change embodied a radical idea, and might be said that Picasso lived several artistic lifetimes. Edition Lithograph on heavyweight premium paper, 1987. Paper Size: 31.5" x 19.75." Pablo Picasso's work in Cubism resulted in many complex and non-traditional representations of human figures, such as this print. Depicting a mother and her child, the artist focused only on the details that he felt were the most integral to the accurate depiction of these two sitters. This portrait, with its sharp angles, use of multiple and conflicting perspectives, and stylized form indicate Pablo Picasso's understanding of the portrait.
