This artwork "Two Pointers Going After a Peasant" 1938 in an original color engraving on Wove paper by French artist Leon Danchin, 1887-1938 It is hand signed in pencil by the artist at the lower right corner and numbered 305/500. The plate mark (Image) size is 18.5 x 33.25 inches, sheet size is 24 x 36 inches. It is in excellent condition. About the artist. Leon Danchin was born in Lille on June 21, 1887. Died on August 4, 1938 in Bergues. He is a French painter, lithographer, engraver and animal sculptor. He was attracted from an early age by drawing and hunting. He studied sculpture at L'Ecole des Beaux Art in Paris and was accepted by the Salon des Artists from the age of sixteen. After training as a sculptor with masters in Lille, he devoted himself more specifically to watercolor. His first works sold very well in France, and also in Belgium, the United States, and England. His professional life will be temporarily interrupted by the 1914-1918 war. Back to civilian life, the joys of hunting and animal studies continued to be his passion. He was very well known to the general public and collectors all over the world for his hunting engravings He devoted himself to sculpture, drawing, watercolours and engraving. Danchin's work is widely recognized as some of the finest when it comes to the canine species. He specialized in sporting dogs, and his work is shown in some of the most prestigious homes in the world. Besides painting and sculpting he produced about one hundred engravings and lithographs, which were immediately successful in the art world. Leon Danchin died at the beginning of the Second World War in Bergues, where he is now buried. Leon Danchin”s work is held in museums, corporate and private collections worldwide.
