Ronald Brooks Kitaj
Vintage SIGNED Kitaj Poster, La Fabbrica, Milan (A Life 1975) woman in red dress

1975

About the Item

Printed in 1975, this poster features the encounter between an alluring woman dressed in red, and a man with his back to the viewer. The light of a streetlamp is beautifully imitated with speckled texture that silhouettes the man. The poster reproduces his lithograph titled "A Life (A)" which is based on his pastel work Femme de Peuple II, and a pulp novel’s salacious cover. Known for his expressive style and charged imagery, Kitaj went against the grain of abstraction during his career, producing nuanced figurative work. This poster’s moody scene displays Kitaj’s ability to evoke emotion and drama with fluid lines and bold color. This print is an example of Kitaj's interest in playful, sensual compositions that were equally inspired by art history and popular culture. Paper 36.5 x 23.5 in. / 92.7 x 59.7 cm. Original poster for an exhibition of Petersburg Press publications at La Fabbrica, Milan in 1975. The poster is printed on fine paper and is signed by the artist lower center in pencil.

  • Elodie (Galliano Paris - Beret), Mixed Media on grey paper
    By Howard Tangye
    Located in London, GB
Howard Tangye (b.1948, Australia) has been an influential force in fashion for decades. Lecturing at London’s Central Saint Martins for 35 years, including 16 years as head of BA Womenswear. There, he tutored many contemporary greats, including John Galliano, Stella McCartney, Christopher Kane, Wes Gordon, Zac Posen and Hussein Chalayan. Examples of Tangye’s portraits are held in many important collections, both public and private, including the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), Harvard University and London’s National Portrait Gallery. Throughout his teaching career Tangye quietly developed a particularly idiosyncratic art practice. By employing a decisive line with bold applications of richly layered materials, Tangye explores the nuances of the human form in an effort to expose his subjects’ true essence and energy. — Howard Tangye Elodie (Galliano Paris...
