Valerio ADAMI was born in Bologne, Italia the 17th of March 1935.
He studied painting in the Brera Academy in Milan.
From the age of 28, he has travelled all over the world and has exhibited his work in a lot of countries: America, India, Cuba, Mexico, Israel, France, Argentina, Japan, Spain, Greece, Belgium, Switzerland…
At the end of the 60’, Valerio ADAMI has become one of the major actors of the movement Figuration Narrative.
Above all, Valerio ADAMI is a drawer.
In his painting, representation is disrupted. When he draws objects and figures, he reinvents the volumes; he increases the number of images in order to dissolve them in a unique colourful picture.
The black outlines of his work remind comic strips or the stained glass windows he created in collaboration with the master Jacques LOIRE in 1984 for the Vitry-sur-Seine town hall.
In his work of the sixties, interiors are represented.
He uses a process of contortion in which elements become destructured and overlap. The character merges with the components of his life universe.
In addition to impressive shows in numerous museums and galleries all over the world, Valerio ADAMI has decorated a lot of public places.
He has created imposing frescos on the walls of many famous buildings such as the First National City Bank in Madison (USA), the Châtelet theatre and the hall of the Austerlitz train station in Paris (France), the Tokyo Park Tower Hotel in Japan, the Mandarin Hotel in New York (USA)…

Valerio Adami
Valerio Adami is an artist internationally recognized for his seductively rich and psychologically complex paintings. He started from an expressionist painting influenced by the work of Francis Bacon, and then he approached the abstract visual idioms of Pop Art with its cartoonish imagery, flatness and eye-popping colors. His artistic life was deeply marked by the meeting with the painters Roberto Sebastián Antonio Matta and Wilfredo Lam, who inspired and encouraged him to develop his talents. Adami’s works are layered with meanings, and his works are exhibited in the most important museums all over the world, London, New York, Venice, Chicago, Rome, Washington, Paris and Tokyo.
